First Day at Childcare Centre

Today is my darling's first day at the childcare centre. Me and my hubby took a day off to accompany her at the centre just in case she could not get used to it.

We got up at 7 am, got everything ready that she needed at the centre, and dragged her from her sleep to go to the centre. She was so grouchy when she got up. But that disappears the moment she reached the place. The moment she stepped into the place, she couldn't wait to check the place out. She was walking around the place, checking out the teachers and the kids.

Once led into the classroom, she sat at the table, like the others, to take her breakfast. After taking a bite, as usual, she began to play the peanut buttered bread. Seeing that she is going to make a mess of her new uniform, we decided to stop her. She then hopped off the table, and went on around the room, looking at all the nice pictures pasted on the walls with great curiousity. Not for a moment, she appeared to be afraid or apprehensive about the new environment and people there, unlike the other 3 new kids, who were either crying, or clinging to the parent or teacher like super glue. To her, we were as good as transparent.

After breakfast, they all lined up and were herded to the toilet where they took turns to wash their hands with the teacher guiding them.

Then shortly after, it's Kinesthetic time, where they were led into a huge gym room. The moment the kids enter the room, all went berserk. My little one shrieked in delight as she saw the teachers throw the coloured balls all over the room. She was so excited that she ran and hopped while chasing the small balls. You could see the sheer happiness on her face.

She got even more excited as I showed her to the pool which is filled with colour balls. She immediately climbed and dived into it. She was so happy and excited that she kept laughing non-stop while having a great time swimming among the balls. We couldn't stop smiling seeing her so happy.

After Gym, again they proceeded to the washroom to wash their tiny hands. You could see the difference between those who have been with the centre for some time and those who have not, like my darling. The former were disciplined in that they knew they have to sit outside the washroom while waiting for their teachers to finish washing everyone's hands. My girl, was so used to come and go as she wish, could not sit still for long, and began to wander off. So we have to pull her back and make her sit like the others.

After what seems like eternity to her, the teachers finally finished the chore and led them to the classroom to rest and have some drinks.

Not too long later, it is Beethoven's time, where they are led to a big playyard with big toy cars, and a big playhouse which has all kinds of kids furnitures and toy house appliances for them to play with. My girl loves to play house, as much as the toy cars. Being the youngest in the group, she is unable to maneuvre as adeptly as the others in the group when driving the toy cars. She had fun nonetheless, as the teacher was very kind to push her car around.

At that point of time, me and my hubby are convinced she is going to do more than just fine. We decided not to follow through the rest of the day. So we left quietly without bidding her goodbye, as we thought it might make her anxious if we do so.

Apparently, we have been worrying for nothing. We are so glad to see that she loves the place so much. Without a doubt, we think we have been right in making the choice of putting her at childcare centre, than to stay put at her grandparents' place. She gets to socialise with children of her age, learn to care and share, and also the discipline that is needed in a group. More importantly, with a structured programme, and a stimulating environment, she will certainly learn more and develop her skills more efficiently than at home.
