We brought her pink bicycle along, which my dear hubby bought for her as a christmas gift. After getting on the bike for less than 15 mins, she gave up as she had to try very hard to pedal. The bike might be a little too big for her. To make it easier for her, her ever doting grandpa tied a rope to the handlebar, and pull her along. She happily sat on the bike and enjoy the "pulling" ride.
So we went for a distance, until her dear grandpa got a little tired. We stopped by the beach near a breakwater. My father-in-law, Shiya and our maid start to play with the sand, while my husband, my mother-in-law and myself, hid under the shade of a tree looking on and enjoying the nice sea view, the cool breeze and people-watching.
About half an hour later, they finally got bored with the digging and pouring. Shiya's grandpa, the little girl and Shiya moved on to the water edge of breakwater and start throwing sand onto it. While they were busy doing so, the mother of the two kids came to them. That's when she realised the the little boy is missing. Nobody knows where the boy went. The mother, panicked, asked my FIL to look after her daughter for a while, and she went around the beach calling out for her son. The shoutings caught the attention of everyone nearby. We all start to look around but there was no sight of the boy. Many of us start to think that he might have drowned. Thinking the same, the mother was so closed to breaking down, until she decided use her mobile phone to call home. That's when she realised that the boy has actually gone home without them! We wondered how the kid went home on his own, and that's when the mother explained to us that they actually lived within walking distance from the beach. Hurriedly, she grabbed her daughter's hand and scurried home.
I wonder what she would do to her son when she gets home. I hope she will teach him a lesson.
If the boy is my son, I would beat the daylights out of him, for going home on his home, doing so without informing me, and for abandoning his sister behind with strangers. He must be taught that his irresponsible actions could bring on serious consequences.
This incident has also taught me not to let my guard down when you are out with your kids. Just because there are many people around, it does not mean that your kids would be safe. Everyone is busy minding their own business, so you can't assume that more people means more eyes to look out for your kids. You should always keep YOUR EYES on your kids at ALL TIMES no matter what.
Now that I'm expecting a baby boy, I hope he will not be so insensible like the boy, as I know boys tend to be less thoughtful and more self-centred than girls.
